VIVIENNE WESTWOOD’S FALL 2019 CAMPAIGN CELEBRATES LONDON’S BARBICAN ESTATE

British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and her creative partner Andreas Kronthaler have teamed with fashion legends Juergen Teller and Sam McKnight to shoot their latest campaign. Teller and Westwood have a long-standing working relationship. Together they have created some iconic ads and editorials (remember Teller’s portraits of a reclining nude Westwood, looking very Botticelli-esque).
For Fall 2019, the iconic creatives have teamed up with London’s Barbican Center. The campaign was shot on location in Central London and it celebrates the Barbicans 50th birthday. Speaking on the collaboration Westwood and Kronthaler said, “We love the Barbican, we go there on a regular basis over all these years, mostly to listen to concerts. It’s a place which always surprises you the building is exciting, there’s always something new to discover.”
In the past, the Barbican Center has been home to a major Jean Paul Gaultier retrospective and an exhibition dedicated to the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
The campaign showcases the best pieces from Kronthaler’s Westwood Fall 2019 collection. There are elements of tribal, punk, glam rock and, references to the 17th century and pirates.
The ad-campaign features Westwood wearing a white floor-length dress, punctured with zips and epaulets. Her hair is worn high while Andreas sports relaxed tailoring under a wedding veil. The shots also star models Duckie Thot dressed in printed leggings and Westwood basque. Jordan Barrett is pictured wearing an acid lime-green suit fastened with a maroon belt.
It’s quintessential Westwood and the backdrop is archetypal British.
